Fastex Logistics is hiring Class A CDL drivers who live in Ocoee and the surrounding west Orange County communities. Ocoee is one of the better places in Central Florida to be based if you drive for a living. Florida’s Turnpike, SR 429 and the west end of SR 408 all come together here, so you are on a major corridor within minutes of your driveway instead of fighting surface streets to get to one.

Our terminal is at 9640 Sidney Hayes Rd, in the industrial area south of Orlando International Airport. From Ocoee that is roughly 20 miles, generally around half an hour depending on how SR 408 is running that morning. You leave your personal vehicle in our secure lot for the length of the run and pick it up when you get back.

These are company driver positions. There is no lease, no deposit and no escrow. You operate late-model company equipment, get paid weekly in the range of $3,000 to $5,000 depending on trailer type and lane assignment, and new hires receive a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

Six trailer types run out of this operation: flatbed, stepdeck, lowboy, conestoga, reefer and bee hauling. We assign seats against experience we can verify through your record. If you want heavy haul, that door opens once you have put time in on open deck freight with us.

  • No more than 3 moving violations

If you meet those four, a recruiter can usually tell you on the first call what we can put you on and what it pays. We would rather have that conversation early than run you through a week of back and forth.

Where you go after that is mostly up to you. Drivers who come in on flatbed and prove they can secure a load properly move to stepdeck, and lowboy comes after that. We promote from inside the fleet before we hire outside for the heavy haul seats.

Six trailer types operate out of this terminal, which means there is usually a seat that fits what you actually want to do instead of whatever happened to be open.

    Flatbed

    Flatbed is open deck freight with no walls and no roof. Out of west Orange County that usually means structural steel, lumber, pipe, drywall, roofing material and palletized building products headed to job sites around Winter Garden, Horizon West, Apopka and the rest of the Central Florida build-out, plus longer runs into the Southeast. Because the load is exposed, securement is on you, and it is governed by FMCSA standards under 49 CFR Part 393. You will work with straps, chains, binders, edge protection and tarps depending on what is on the deck. Compared with dry van you trade physical work for time. Most pickups and drops happen in yards or on job sites rather than at an appointment door, so you spend far less of your week waiting on a dock. Flatbed is where our open deck operation starts. The securement habits you build here carry straight into stepdeck and lowboy.

    Stepdeck

    A stepdeck, or drop deck, is an open trailer with an upper deck over the tractor and a lower main deck behind it. That lower deck sits at roughly 42 inches instead of the 60 inches you get on a standard flatbed, which buys you about 18 inches of cargo height. In practical terms it lets a load of around 10 feet move under the 13 foot 6 inch legal limit without an oversize permit. Typical freight is compact excavators, skid steers, tractors, scissor lifts, crated machinery and tanks. Between construction in west Orange and the nursery and agricultural equipment moving through the Apopka area, Central Florida produces steady volume that is simply too tall for a flatbed. Securement follows the same rules as flatbed, with extra attention paid to ramp loading and how weight sits across the deck. Some of our stepdecks carry integrated ramps for drive-on freight.

    Lowboy

    Lowboy carries the heavy equipment that will not clear height limits on any other open deck. The well sits between 18 and 24 inches off the road, which handles machine heights of roughly 11 to 12 feet. Most units use a removable gooseneck so equipment can be driven or winched on from the front. You will haul excavators, dozers, graders, cranes and other tracked or wheeled machinery. A lot of it exceeds legal weight or dimension limits and moves on state permits, and some Florida routes come with escort requirements or time of day restrictions you have to plan around. The seat calls for real working knowledge of axle weight distribution, permit conditions and where a machine needs to sit on the deck. Lowboy pays the best of anything we run here, and we fill it from drivers who already have verified flatbed or stepdeck time with us.

    Conestoga

    A conestoga is a flatbed or stepdeck fitted with a retractable tarp on a rolling frame. The canopy slides back to open the deck for side or overhead loading, then closes over the load. It replaces manual tarping, and that is a bigger deal than it sounds. A conventional tarp job runs 30 to 45 minutes and accounts for a large share of flatbed injuries, most of them falls from the deck. A conestoga opens and closes in a few minutes from ground level. In a Florida summer, when an afternoon storm can show up between the shipper and the on-ramp, that difference is worth something. Freight is generally product that needs weather protection but still requires open deck access: machinery, coiled steel, packaged building materials and finished goods. Securement requirements do not change. The canopy keeps rain off the load but restrains nothing.

    Reefer

    Reefer runs temperature controlled freight in refrigerated trailers. Out of Central Florida that is mostly produce, frozen and refrigerated food, beverages and pharmaceutical product moving through regional distribution centers and running north on I-75 and I-95. The work is easier on your back than open deck, but it never stops asking for your attention. You verify the set point against the bill of lading, confirm the trailer is pre-cooled before it loads, watch the unit in transit and keep your temperature records clean. Food loads fall under the FDA Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food rule, and a documented temperature excursion is one of the most common reasons a load gets rejected and turns into a claim. Refrigerated receivers work fixed appointment windows, so scheduling is tighter and detention comes up more often than it does on open deck. Volume holds up year round.

    Bee Hauling

    Bee hauling moves live commercial honeybee colonies for agricultural pollination. Out of Florida that means migrating hives across the Southeast, and we have been doing it for more than eight years without losing our reputation for delivering colonies healthy. Live freight has its own rules. Securement pairs standard strapping with heavy duty netting so the stacked hives stay put, and you manage airflow by keeping the truck moving during daylight hours so the colonies do not overheat. The schedule follows the bees rather than a warehouse. Loading and unloading happen almost entirely at night or right at dawn while the bees are dormant, which is an unusual clock to keep and takes a reliable driver. What you get in exchange is farm to farm work with essentially no dock detention.

    How far is the terminal from Ocoee?

    Our yard is at 9640 Sidney Hayes Rd, south of Orlando International Airport. From Ocoee that is roughly 20 miles and usually around half an hour, either straight down SR 408 or by way of SR 429 and the Turnpike. Most of our Ocoee drivers make that drive once at the start of a run and once at the end, and leave the car with us in between.

    Do you hire drivers outside Ocoee?

    Yes. We hire across west Orange County and the surrounding area, including Winter Garden, Apopka, Oakland, Windermere, Gotha, Clermont and Pine Hills. If you can get to the terminal in a reasonable drive, put in an application.

    Do you hire drivers with less than two years of experience?

    Our standard requirement is two years of Class A experience. The application asks whether you are over or under two years, so put your real number in. Under two years is not an automatic no, but it turns into a longer conversation with the recruiter about where you have run and what you have hauled.

    Is this an owner-operator or a lease program?

    Neither. You drive our equipment. There is no deposit, no lease payment and no escrow.

    How is the $3,000 sign-on bonus paid?

    Ask the recruiter on your call. Bonus terms depend on the trailer type and your start date, and they will walk you through the payout schedule before you commit to anything.

    Do I need flatbed experience to get hired?

    No. If you have Class A time on a dry van or reefer we will talk to you. If you want to move to the open deck side, flatbed is where you start. Stepdeck and lowboy come later, once you have shown you can secure a load properly.

    What endorsements do you want?

    Class A is the requirement. Anything beyond that widens what we can put you on, so mention your endorsements on the call.

    Can I park my car at the terminal?

    Yes, and there is no charge for it. Secure parking for personal vehicles is part of the job, which is the main reason our Ocoee drivers are not paying to leave a car somewhere for two weeks.
