Flatbed
Flatbed is open deck work. No walls, no roof, and the load is your responsibility the moment the straps go on. Out of Central Florida you will haul structural steel, lumber, pipe, drywall, roofing bundles and palletized building material to job sites along the I-4 corridor and up through the Southeast. Securement is governed by FMCSA standards in 49 CFR Part 393, so you will work with straps, chains, binders, edge protection and tarps depending on the commodity. The trade against dry van is straightforward: more physical work, far less time waiting at a dock, since most stops are yards and job sites rather than appointment doors. Flatbed is also where our open deck drivers start. The securement habits you build here are what qualify you for stepdeck and lowboy later.
